Ludhiana: City resident Rachit Arora brought laurels to Ludhiana by bagging gold at the All-India G. V. Navalanker Championship in Chennai on 1st September. Arora dominated the 25m Standard Pistol event in Men’s Individuals competitions, at the tournament that is also touted as the Pre-Nationals. With this victory, he qualifies as a strong contender in the Nationals, soon to be held at Delhi in late November.
Arora defeated Aditya Rao from Trivanduram to win the gold medal. His win is made noteworthy by the fact that Rachit has had lesser training than most of his peers. While he has practised air-pistol for a year, under coach Jaspal Singh at Phillaur Police Academy, his training for the standard-pistol event was held for merely a month before his participation in the pre-nationals tournament.
Rachit Arora is visibly delighted with his win. “These few days have been really incredible. I cannot wait to be at the nationals soon, and I do hope to win another gold”, said Rachit, talking to CNI. He also dedicated his victory to his parents, crediting their support and encouragement as the backbone of his achievement.
